Let me be clear before getting into this post: these cookies are for DOGS. The ingredients are all natural, real food ingredients, so technically you COULD eat them…they just won’t taste that good to a human because there is no sugar. Dogs, on the other hand, love them. Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with my dog. River is a one and a half year old Golden Retriever and he is literally my child. My personal Instagram account is filled with tons of pictures of him (he also makes some appearances on the Busy Girl Healthy World Instagram page as well). A lot of the treats you can buy at pet stores are made with fillers and very little real food ingredients. The ones that are made with real food are generally pretty expensive. These treats are made using just three dog-friendly ingredients: peanut butter, oats, and applesauce. All of these ingredients are affordable and you probably have them in your pantry already. I found this recipe on Munchkins and the Military and Alex’s original recipe used a banana, but I was out so I subbed applesauce and it worked great! I got about 18 treats out of this recipe, but that will vary depending on the size of the cookie cutter you use. I found this cute dog bone cutter at Michael’s craft store, but you can also order one on Amazon. Make these treats for your fur baby and he/she will definitely be begging for more!
Active Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
1½ cup oats ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
½ cup creamy peanut butter
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grind the oats into a flour using a high-powered blender or food processor. Reserve a tablespoon of the oat flour to use when rolling out the dough. Combine the oats with applesauce and peanut butter until it forms a dough. The dough should hold together and not be too sticky. Sprinkle the reserved tablespoon of oat flour on the counter and roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out bone-shaped cookies and transfer them to a parchment-covered baking sheet. Bake for 18 minutes, or until the edges begin to brown. Cool completely, then store in an air-tight container.
